Flavor of the week

This week's Creami recreation is Jeni's Sweet Cream Biscuits and Peach Jam.

I honestly didn't even know this existed until people started requesting it in the comments.

Here's what makes it different from anything I've done before...

Homemade jam.

Frozen, and added to the base, and heated up and spooned on top.

Hot and cold at the same time. Like a proper sundae.

And then there's the Ritz crackers blended in.

Salty. Crunchy. Unexpected.

This one's the perfect spring recipe.

Rapid Reviews

This week I tried Sweet Gains protein ice cream.

They're a smaller brand mostly sold in the Northeast right now.

Here's what stood out:

The texture is way closer to real ice cream than anything else in this space.

I only tried vanilla, but the flavor was on point. It tasted like real vanilla bean.

But the trade-off is calories. It's more than Protein Pints, but you also get more protein.

430 calories and 40 grams of protein.

Also worth calling out the price point can be pretty steep depending on where you find it.

The range I've seen is $8 on the low end and $11 on the high end.

The Verdict:

8/10.

Find it.

In the Lab

There's one ingredient I keep going back to that needs more attention:

Extracts.

For nearly zero calories, they unlock flavors that would otherwise cost you hundreds of calories to pull off.

Cake batter. Cookie butter. Red velvet.

Try adding any of those to your Ninja Creami base and watch the flavor change completely.

One teaspoon of extract and you're there.

The catch: brand matters.

After trying probably 20 different brands, I keep coming back to two: LorAnn and McCormick.

McCormick is everywhere. LorAnn you'll have to grab online.

And some extracts are straight up inedible. Yeah I'm talking to you, pistachio.

I've thrown out more than I'd like to admit.

If you're just getting started, here's what I'd grab first:

Vanilla (or upgrade to vanilla bean paste). Peppermint. Cake batter.

That's your starter kit.

I put together a full video breaking this down too.
